Austin Kleon, author of the book Steal Like An Artist, is releasing a new book soon called Show Your Work. After reading Steal I am incredibly excited to see what this new book will be like.
Oh wait. I already can.
The amazing thing about Austin is that he shares (almost) everything that’s in his book. Or at least the major points.
In an article on Medium Austin shares the ten talking points in his book. The awesome part of this is he’s following his own advice, sharing his work with the world.
This something that most authors/artists are terrified to do. In the digital age everyone is afraid of someone stealing their idea or beating them to the publishing stage. But Austin’s books discuss how instead of hoarding our work and hiding it until it’s perfect we should share it with the world throughout all its stages.
To a lot of creative types this seems like the exact opposite of what we should do and it is a struggle for me personally to put my work out there unfinished and raw but sharing those things with the world creates interest.
As Austin says: “Share your dots but don’t connect them”.
I’m so excited to find this book and read it. Not only is it interesting and informative but it is visually stunning and a quick read ( I’ve re-read Steal Like an Artist about 10 times now).
